Another Lesson To Learn

I never like learning lessons the hard way, they always cause more troubles then the easy way :)

On Friday my sites went down, and they stayed down until this morning (Monday). The whole weekend all of my sites through this one host were down. The host was changing servers, and they ran into problems doing so. It wasn’t their fault that it went down, servers go down all the time, it’s something you can’t really help.

My sites went down for a day about a month ago, and like this time, I did not hear anything from my host. As a customer I need to know what’s going on, even if they can not do anything about it, I need to know. Maybe the site’s will be back up in 1 hr, but maybe not for 1 week, I have no way to knowing, but they do.

The last time it went down, all of their sites went down too, making it impossible to contact anyone. I did send an email, but I knew it wasn’t going to go through, and since their sites where down, I couldn’t find any phone numbers to contact.

Now, I do have to say this … my hosting is run through this one guy who owns many hosting sites. He is a great guy, but I don’t think he realizes how much communication is needed. He does have support for the servers/sites, and they are awesome! However, they are not “official” support, they don’t get paid, they are helping him out.

This is great for him… but not so great for the support people. I talk with one of the support guys all the time, and he has told me many times that the “boss” just doesn’t communicate well, and this causes many issues.

I will stop babbling, and finish off :)

I can contact the support guys all the time, but the issue here is not being able to contact the “boss” who decides everything. I shouldn’t have to just talk to the unofficial support guys, I should be able to talk to the guy who is taking my money :)

The lesson learned … find a host that you can contact when in need. And also find one that doesn’t go down for a day or two every month. Needless to say, I am beginning to move my sites to another host … with GREAT support. I will post about them later :)

    Hey Joel,
Did you send out emails to the members?
I didn’t get one and a few of RMC members contacted me about it. They seemd kinda frustrated and mad at the same time. I gave them URLs to the temp site, but an email to them would be nice.

    Thanks.

Ya, I did send an email. However not everyone was on the list. Since the site is back up now, I have made a post.
